Cost-effective care delivery redesign that prioritizes care communication and coordination has become a national priority to improve the quality of care in America. Promising strategies at the organization level include accountable care organizations and medical homes; promising strategies at service delivery front lines include team-based models and improvement-focused roles. This presentation will describe one innovative care delivery model and its growing evidence of impact on patient safety/quality outcomes, health cost avoidance and reductions, and improved communication and collaboration across disciplines. Join this web seminar discussion with the nation’s leading experts to discuss the preparation, integration, and impact of the Clinical Nurse Leader in producing meaningful outcomes in healthcare.

Guest Presenters:

Miriam Bender, PhD, RN, Assistant Professor, Program in Nursing Science, University of California Irvine

Miriam Bender received her PhD in Nursing Science in May 2013 from the University of San Diego Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science, and joined the UCI Program in Nursing Science as an Assistant Professor in November 2014. Dr. Bender's research focuses on the relationships between the organization of healthcare delivery, multi-professional practice dynamics, and patient care quality and safety outcomes. Her most recent work seeks to characterize, measure, explain, and evaluate an innovative model that integrates a new role, the clinical nurse leader (CNL), into nursing care delivery microsystems. The goal is to produce a strong theoretical and empirical evidence base for models of nursing care delivery that consistently impact quality patient outcomes and can be taken up across the healthcare spectrum.
