Ann Hendrich, RN, MS, FAAN

As Vice President of Clinical Excellence Operations at Ascension Health, the nation’s largest Catholic and nonprofit healthcare system consisting of 66 acute care hospitals in 19 states and the District of Columbia.  Ann Hendrich, RN, MSN, F.A.A.N., chairs the Chief Nursing Officer community while guiding the implementation of System Clinical Excellence and informatics initiatives in partnership with executives, board members, and clinical officer leadership.

Hendrich was the Principal Investigator for the Acuity-Adaptable Hospital Patient Room model that has spread into hospital designs for the future and she has built a body of knowledge on the hospital work environment of nurses and the relationship to patient outcomes from a the Time and Motion study - a multi-site study in 36 hospitals, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.

Hendrich is widely published in professional journals and nursing texts, is active on editorial boards, and serves as a grant reviewer for major nursing organizations.  She is a frequent advisor to The Advisory Board and has served a board member for the Center of Health Design, Zynx and the Nursing Advisory Council with The Joint Commission. Hendrich has a special interest in geriatrics, and is the author of the Hendrich II Risk Model®, a predictive model for inpatient falls. In 2007, Modern Healthcare identified Ann as one of the Top 25 Women in Healthcare and in 2009, the St. Louis Business Journal selected her as One of the Most Influential Business Women.

Hendrich is a Robert Wood Johnson Fellow, holds a bachelor’s degree from DePauw University and a master’s degree from Indiana State University in Adult Health and Administration and is currently completing her Ph.D. dissertation at Loyola University, Chicago.
